Tuna Patties Recipe

These flavourful tuna patties are quick, easy, and packed with fresh herbs and zesty lemon. Perfect for a light lunch, snack, or even as a main dish paired with your favourite sides.

Ingredients:

  • 2 x 180g cans of tuna, drained

  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard

  • 1 tablespoon almond flour

  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • 1 tablespoon water (or liquid from the tuna cans)

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives (or green onions/shallots)

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

  • A couple of dashes of Tabasco (optional for a little kick)

  • 1 raw egg

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1/2 teaspoon butter

Method:

Step 1: Drain the Tuna

  • Open the cans of tuna and drain the liquid. If you're using tuna packed in water, reserve about a tablespoon of the tuna water. Add a teaspoon of olive oil to the tuna mixture in the next step to keep things moist.

Step 2: Mix the Ingredients

  • In a medium bowl, combine the tuna, Dijon mustard, almond flour, lemon zest, lemon juice, reserved water (or tuna liquid), parsley, chives, hot sauce (if using), salt, and freshly ground black pepper.

  • Taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning to your liking before adding the egg. Mix in the egg until everything is well combined.

Step 3: Form Patties & Chill

  • Divide the tuna mixture into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten into a patty shape.

  • Place the patties on a tray lined with wax paper and chill for at least one hour. Chilling helps the patties hold their shape while cooking, but if you're short on time, you can skip this step.

Step 4: Cook the Patties

  • Heat the olive oil and butter in a cast-iron or non-stick pan over medium-high heat.

  • Gently add the tuna patties to the hot pan. Cook each patty for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they’re nicely browned and crispy.

Step 5: Serve & Enjoy

  • Serve these delicious tuna patties hot with your favourite dipping sauce, a side salad, or in a sandwich. Enjoy!
